Breeders of Canada's National Horse
THE CANADIAN
Le Cheval Canadien
When in conversation with people, the topic of horses invariably comes around. "So, you have horses. What kind?"
"Canadian" I answer, and then it comes.....
"Yes, I'm sure they're Canadian, but what kind?"

This horse, The Canadian, has been around for over 350 years, a gift to New France from the Sun King, Louis XIV, in the mid-seventeenth century. Yet here in our own country people don't even know what our National Horse is. People don't know that The Canadian Horse is the only horse to have evolved in Canada. People don't know that The Canadian Horse has now been shown to be genetically distinct from all other breeds. People don't know the unparalleled contributions The Canadian Horse has made, first on the farm, then on the battlefield, at the race track and in the show ring. People don't know what a magnificent prize we have here in our own country.
Education is the key to the survival of The Canadian Horse.

The Canadian Horse, Le Cheval Canadien, Little Horse of Iron. A Canadian Horse by any other name would still carry all the history of its nation on its powerful sturdy body.

All the talk in the world can't give you the full appreciation of this humble treasure we have here. Only until you spend time with a Canadian Horse will you come to feel its pride.
