Currently, all Canadians must be DNA verified and identified with a tattoo or electronic implant of its corresponding bloodline in order to be registered.

A registered name has three parts which it must contain:
1) First part of the name is the herd (ranch or farm) name that owned the mare at the time of         breeding
2) Second or middle part of the name is of the sire which was bred to the mare.
3) Third or given name is based on the year it was foaled. For this, a letter of the alphabet has     been assigned to each year. i.e; 2002 - 'M' : Mouse, 2006 - 'S': Sydney

The letters I, O, Q and V or U are not used, owing to the possible confusion with the numbers 1 and 0 and the letter W when tattooed letters are used for identification.
For example:
Morr-McNaughton Lou II Sydney (pictured here)
The Mare belonged to me (Morr-McNaughton Stables) at the time of breeding. She was bred to Pineview D'Heritage Lou II. Sydney was born in the year 2006
